The highland resort feel of Kusatsu allows you to release the stresses of everyday living. The hot water from the celebrated Kusatsu Spa is ranked as one of the three best in Japan.
Hotel KURBIO’s semi-open-air baths are open to the natural environment to create a sense of spaciousness, a feature unique in Kusatsu, and sourced 100% from free-flowing hot-spring water. Gazing out from the baths at nearby trees and Mount Asama in the distance cleanses and refreshes both mind and body.
indoor bath/Jacuzzi
(one each for men and women)
Hot water is drawn from Kusatsu Spa, ranked as one of the three best in Japan. The water is acidic, hypotonic, and high-temperature, and contains sodium, potassium, magnesium and iron. The water is between 87.2 and 93.9 degrees Celsius at source, but bathwater temperature is controlled to keep it in the range of 42 to 43 degrees.
Kusatsu Spa water is effective for: hypertension, arteriosclerosis, chronic skin diseases, chronic gynecological diseases, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, impaired mobility, intolerance to cold, neuralgia, muscular pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, bruises, stiff joints, sprains, hemorrhoids, convalescence from illness and promotion of health.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, extolled the importance of exercise and diet in maintaining health 2,500 years ago, and it is said that he also took spa treatments and bathed alternately in hot and cold water on the island of Kos in the Aegean Sea. There is evidence to suggest that in Japan too at a similar time in history, people used spas for bathing.

Spa water with its mineral constituents acts to improve the functioning of the autonomous nerves, hormones and immune system to return the body to its natural rhythm (homeostasis). There’s also nothing like a change of location to a place far away from where you live, and the effect of a high-altitude spa to raise your spirits.

Kusatsu provides just the right situation with an environment that promotes the well-balanced healing of mind and body.

As a spa resort, Kusatsu has of course a wonderful environment, which can be combined with Hotel KURBIO’s delicious, vitamin- and mineral-filled macrobiotic food, and comfortable rooms—a spa cure to delight the senses. Spend at least two nights with us to raise the natural healing ability of your body, soak to your heart’s content, and experience the leading edge of Japanese spa treatment.

Since ancient times the Japanese have been healing mind and body at spas. Experience this tradition for yourself and enjoy the effects of a petit toji (spa recuperation) just before a change of season when it’s easy for the body to get out of balance, or at any other time.
